Caerau Ely FC is proud to announce the development of a brand-new 3G pitch at its home at Cwrt Yr Ala Road, a major investment that will transform football provision for the club and the wider Caerau Ely community.
The project has been made possible through funding support from the Cymru Football Foundation, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and Cardiff Met Sport, demonstrating a shared commitment to improving community sport infrastructure in Cardiff.
The new 3G artificial surface will provide a modern, all-weather facility capable of supporting the club’s ambitions of developing Community Football and to compete at Tier 1 level, while significantly increasing opportunities for local residents to participate in sport.
Once completed, the facility will serve as a community hub, allowing Caerau Ely FC to expand its football programmes, grassroots development, and recreational activity for people of all ages.
A key focus of the project will be growing female participation, with plans to introduce dedicated evenings for women’s and girls’ football, creating more accessible pathways into the game.
The club is also working closely with Mary Immaculate High School, strengthening links between education and sport by providing high-quality facilities for young people in the local area.
The Cwrt Yr Ala Road 3G pitch will help ensure the long-term sustainability of Caerau Ely FC while delivering significant benefits to the wider community.
The project represents a major step forward in the club’s mission to provide accessible, inclusive and high-quality sporting opportunities for the people of Caerau Ely and Cardiff.

State-of-the-art 3G pitch
Our brand new FIFA-standard 3G football pitch will provide a professional, all-weather playing surface designed for year-round use. The facility will be one of the first pitches in Wales to use environmentally friendly green infill, replacing traditional black rubber to create a more modern and sustainable playing environment.
The new surface will also support FAW Tier 1 licensing requirements, helping Caerau Ely FC continue to compete at the highest levels of Welsh domestic football.
Community football hub
Cwrt Yr Ala Road will become a hub for community football in Ely, providing opportunities for local grassroots clubs, youth teams and community groups to access high-quality facilities.
The development will also support the growth of women’s and girls’ football, with dedicated evenings planned to encourage increased female participation in the game.
Through partnerships with organisations such as Mary Immaculate High School, the facility will play a key role in developing pathways for young players within the local community.

Conveniently located just off the A4232 with direct access from the M4, Cwrt Yr Ala Road (CF5 5QS) is easily accessible from across Cardiff and South Wales.
The venue also offers modern changing rooms, a clubhouse and licensed bar with TVs showing live sport, spectator areas, and accessible parking, creating an excellent environment for players, supporters and community events.
